Garage Floor Coating Installation Day: Hour by Hour

Before the Crew Arrives

Clear the garage completely — vehicles, storage, wall-mounted shelving that sits low enough to interfere with grinding equipment. We'll walk the space with you first thing to confirm scope and flag anything unexpected (a hidden crack, a low spot, a drain that needs masking).

Hour 0–2: Diamond Grinding

This is the loudest, dustiest part of the day, and it's the single most important step for how the coating will perform for the next decade. Diamond grinders mechanically open the concrete's pore structure so the coating can actually bond instead of just sitting on top of a sealed or contaminated surface. We run a dust-containment vacuum system throughout — this isn't the same as an old-school hand-grinder cloud.

Hour 2–3: Crack Repair and Patching

Any hairline cracks, chips, or pitting get chased out and filled with a flexible polyurea or epoxy filler before coating — never just painted over. Painting over an active crack guarantees it telegraphs back through the finish within a season.

Hour 3–4: Base Coat Application

The primer/base coat goes down first, giving the system its color and structural bond to the slab. If you've chosen a flake or metallic finish, this is also when the decorative broadcast happens — flakes are cast by hand across the wet base coat for even, natural coverage.

Day Two: Topcoat

Most jobs return the following day for the clear topcoat — a UV-stable polyaspartic seal that locks in the finish, adds slip resistance, and gives the floor its final gloss level. This is also when we go over care instructions and the warranty paperwork.

When Can You Use the Garage Again?

Walk-ready in 24 hours. Most polyaspartic systems are ready for light vehicle traffic in 48 hours and full cure (heavy use, hot tires, jacks) by 72 hours. We'll give you an exact window in writing before we leave.
